A Washington, D.C. officer showed off her dancing skills after challenging a teenager to a dance-off Tuesday afternoon.
The unidentified cop, who works for the D.C. police department, was breaking up a verbal fight at a park nearby when she noticed Aaliya Taylor ,17, dancing to a popular song by Silentó called “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).” That’s when the cop challenged Taylor to a dance-off.
“I started to dance and then the cop was like, ‘I could do better,’ and I was like, ‘OK, so you want to challenge me?’” Taylor told News 4.
Then the dancing began.
“I was in shock,” Taylor added.
But it was a moment that changed how Taylor felt towards cops. Up until then, Taylor said she feared law enforcement officers because teenagers were “getting hurt by cops.”

On Monday, a video showing a South Carolina officer violently removing a female student from her desk and tossing her across the classroom floor sparked outrage. And on Wednesday, video was released of another school resource officer allegedly punching a student multiple times in the face at a high school in Oklahoma.

Taylor was grateful for the dance-off and made sure to let the female officer know.
“She gave me a hug and I was like ‘yeah, we need more cops like you,’” Taylor told News 4 about the officer.
The video posted to Taylor’s Facebook page has been viewed more than 767,600 times.
The mayor of Washington, D.C., Muriel Bowser, even commented on her Twitter page about the incident, as did U.S. President Barack Obama saying:
“Who knew community policing could involve the Nae Nae? Great example of police having fun while keeping us safe.”
