WINNIPEG — With the approach of Halloween, many people begin to wonder when and if we’ll have snow on the ground.
After all, we live in Manitoba.
For those who live up north, snow has already made an appearance in many areas. In southern Manitoba, some have seen flurries but we’ve yet to see the snow that sticks around.
The forecast for Wednesday calls for a moderate chance of wet flurries but with temperatures on the plus side there’s no chance it will hang around.
So when will we see our first snowfall? That remains to be seen.
Here’s a look back over the past five years and when we needed to pull out our trusty shovels.
2014
- November 13th – snow that stuck around
- November 28th – first significant snowfall over 5 cm
2013
- November 17th – snow that stuck around
- November 20th – first significant snowfall over 5 cm
2012
- November 10th – first significant snowfall 20 cm
2011
- November 7th – snow that stuck around
- November 18th – first significant snowfall over 5 cm
2010
- November 19th – first significant snowfall 9 cm
By the end of November last year we had 10 cm of snow on the ground.
With El Nino forecast to affect the Northern hemisphere this winter, it’s a big unknown what the 2015-16 season will bring just yet for us here in Manitoba.
A shorter winter with milder temperatures is always welcome.
