No break on Thanksgiving Day for federal party leaders with one week left until election

OTTAWA – With just one week to go until next Monday’s federal election, the party leaders are into their final sprint to the finish line.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has the busiest Thanksgiving Day schedule, starting the day in the Ottawa-area and moving through eastern Ontario with stops in Napanee and Port Hope in the afternoon.

The Harper campaign also has its eye on Ontario as Stephen Harper has an event on a farm near Waterloo.

NDP leader Tom Mulcair is taking no Thanksgiving break, he’s been campaigning in British Columbia all weekend and is in the Vancouver suburb of Maple Ridge this morning.

Mulcair moves on to Saskatoon later today.

It seems voter interest in the election is picking up as well.

Elections Canada says turnout at the first two days of advance polls this weekend was up 36 per cent from the advance polls in the 2011 election.

Advance polls are open again today.
