The building was flooded on Thursday, September 24, 2015. According to NSHA, a stopper in a one-inch pipe corroded and failed, sending water gushing into a supply room.

Water then seeped down through the building, causing damage on the fourth and third floors as well.

Approximately 50 patients had to be evacuated to other areas of the QEII , including ICU patients.

Patients and visitors inside the building at the time described the situation as chaotic, with “rain in the elevators”.

Health Minister Leo Glavine toured the site earlier this week, saying, “[the damage] is really going to put the pressure on us to, perhaps, emerge with a different plan.”
