Police hand out hundreds of tickets during safety blitz

REGINA – Regina’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P) wrapped up in the city last week and officers handed out hundreds of tickets during the two-day blitz.

Law enforcement agencies and SGI were set up around the city during the blitz to hand out tickets, and provide safety education to drivers who may need it.

In total, police handed out 263 speeding tickets, 33 seatbelt violations, 14 vehicles were being operated without a valid driver’s license and there were also 32 cell phone violations.

During the blitz over 100 child seats were inspected and safety officials gave away seven new car seats during the inspections.

Regina was the third city in Saskatchewan to participate in the S.T.E.P blitz. Earlier in the year Prince Albert and Yorkton took part in the blitz.
