The Lethbridge Hurricanes wrapped up preseason play this weekend with a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Calgary Hitmen.  Overall, it was a position preseason that saw the ‘Canes finish with a record of 3-2-1.  While the winning record is nice, Head Coach Brent Kisio isn’t only concerned with results in the preseason.

“It’s more about where you’re at with your structure. As long as your guys are working, things like that,” said Kisio. “You’re really worrying about yourselves in preseason, and I think we did a great job.”

The next time the Hurricanes hit the ice, the results will matter. The team’s regular season begins Friday, when they host the rival Medicine Hat Tigers.

“It’ll be my first game on the bench as the Head Coach here, I’m excited for that,” said Kisio. “I’m also excited for the guys, They worked really hard through camp this year, and I think they’re ready. They definitely want to play instead of practicing all the time.”

After missing the playoffs six consecutive years, outside expectations are low for the Hurricanes this season. But, veteran forward Tyler Wong, believes they have the talent to compete.

“We haven’t had a roster this deep, this talented, and I haven’t seen this many guys work this hard as a group. In our workouts, on the ice, and off the ice,” said Wong. “I think that we’ll be able to have a great season and make playoffs this year.”

The Hurricanes continue to tweak their roster ahead of Friday’s regular season opener.  The club announced on Monday it has reassigned 18-year old forward Johny Wesley to the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL.  The move leaves the ‘Canes with 26 players on the roster.
