TORONTO – Edwin Encarnacion homered in his first at-bat Sunday, his fourth in six at-bats, to extend his major-league-best hitting streak to 25 games.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ slugger hit a solo home run to right-centre in the first inning off Detroit Tigers starter Alfredo Simon, his 30th of the season.

By driving in his 35th run in August, Encarnacion set a new franchise record for RBIs in any month.

Encarnacion’s 25-game hitting streak is the fourth-longest in club history, three short of Shawn Green’s record of 28 set in 1999.

In a 15-1 rout of the Tigers on Saturday, Encarnacion hit a two-run home run, a three-run home run and a grand slam.

With nine RBIs, Encarnacion tied Roy Howell’s franchise record from 1977.
