Dartmouth — The search continues for a missing swimmer in Lake Banook.
Just before noon on Sunday, patrol members of the Halifax Regional Police were notified by a member of the public that a person was struggling in the water near Birch Cove Beach.
Police, lake patrol, EHS and Halifax Fire officials immediately attended the area. Members of the public also helped to search the lake on privately-owned boats.
A dive team was called in from Moncton to help emergency officials with the search.
“It’s my understanding that he was observed swimming and there is a last known observed point marked out there and that will be a point of origin when the dive team arrives,” says Peter Andrews, Divisional Commander with Halifax Fire.
The name and age of the swimmer has not been released yet.
