WINNIPEG — Manitoba Liberals say they would lift the limit on hip and knee surgeries in the province, but they won’t say how much the move would cost.
Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari says waiting lists are high because of government-imposed budget limits that cap the number of surgeries that can be done in any year.
She says she would lift that cap so that any knee and hip surgery could be done, as long as a doctor and operating room were available.
When asked how much the promise would cost, Bokhari said cost is irrelevant because having a budget cap on such surgeries is bad policy.
The most recent data from Manitoba Health shows a median wait time of 17 weeks for hip and knee surgeries.
The Liberals have one seat in the legislature and are hoping to add to that in next year’s election.
