TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays pulled a blockbuster deal overnight by sending Jose Reyes and a pair of prospects to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and reliever LaTroy Hawkins.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal first reported the trade just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The deal wasn’t officially announced by either team as of early Tuesday, but several Blue Jays players took to Twitter to say goodbye to Reyes.
The Jays confirmed the deal just after 11 a.m.
The deal surprised many as the Toronto ball club had been rumoured to be shopping for pitchers.
