Dorval residents fight community mailboxes

WATCH ABOVE: Residents in Dorval are fuming after Canada Post tried to install community mail boxes on their lawns. Global’s Kelly Greig reports.

DORVAL – It looks like a Dorval man has won his fight against Canada Post – for now.

Community mailboxes are springing up in Hans Dybka’s neighbourhood and he’s fighting to keep his own home mailbox free.

“We didn’t want it in front of our house,” said Dybka.

Door to door mail service is coming to an end for many Canadians over the next year.

Back in April, Dybka put piles of dirt and scaffolding on his lawn to prevent Canada Post from installing the boxes.

“To have 47 people stopping everyday to pick up their mail, if it’s cars or people walking, it’s continuous disturbance,” he said.

“It’s almost like you’re turning this into a commercial dépanneur and to us it’s unacceptable.”

It seems to have worked for him, but that now leaves other residents fighting against the mailboxes.

“I told the guy at Canada Post this is not logical,” said resident Maryse Lachance.
