Missing Winnipeg grandmother’s glasses found, family disheartened

WATCH: Thelma Krull passes neighbours’ homes on the morning of her disappearance in video taken from a home’s surveillance camera.

WINNIPEG — Thelma Krull’s glasses were found in the area around Valley Gardens Community Centre, police said Wednesday as the search for the missing grandmother stretched to five days.

Police released more details about their search Wednesday afternoon as well as surveillance video of Krull walking Saturday morning, the last known sighting of the missing Winnipegger.

Krull, 57, left home at about 7:20 a.m. Saturday and was caught on a nearby home’s surveillance camera at 7:23 a.m. She planned to take a long walk, part of her training for a seven-day hike in B.C.

Bob Krull, her husband, also spoke to media at the police briefing Wednesday.

“This is Winnipeg — a great city — and we need your help,” Bob Krull said. “We’re being positive.  Thelma was a very positive person.”

In addition to the Valley Gardens area, she may have walked in the 2000 block of Henderson Highway and in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West, police said.

Police believe she may have been in the area around the Valley Gardens Community Club between 7 and 10 a.m. Saturday, they said. Anyone who may have been in the area, including tennis players, walkers and joggers, are asked to call police if they think they may have seen Krull or any suspicious activity. People are also asked to check their property, including outbuildings, vehicles and green space, for Krull, and anyone who may have other video of her should also contact the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.

Police released the surveillance video to show people what Krull looked like the day she disappeared, including her walking style and clothing.

Bob Krull didn’t see his wife the morning she headed out.

“I was still sleeping when she left,” he said.

With each passing day, the search becomes more discouraging, said Lisa Besser, the Krulls’ daughter.

“It’s disheartening,” Besser said, “but we’re still out here searching. We won’t stop looking for her.”

Search and Rescue officers continued to knock on doors in the Valley Gardens area Wednesday, searching yards and sheds.

Winnipeg police taped off the Valley Gardens Community Centre Tuesday after they found something they believed was suspicious. Photos were taken but the tape has since been removed.
