SALMON ARM – Salmon Arm RCMP say they will be recommending the driver of a pick-up truck is charged after a crash Tuesday afternoon. RCMP believe alcohol played a role in the accident. The crash was one of two injury causing accidents in the community in the span of 24 hours.

RCMP say around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday a pick-up truck went over the bank on 10th Avenue S.E. near 6th Street S.E.. The driver, a 49-year-old Salmon Arm woman, was the only person in the truck at the time.

“Police believe alcohol involvement was a contributing factor leading to the crash,” wrote Staff Sgt. Scott West in a news release.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

In a separate incident Monday afternoon, a motorcycle and a car both ended up damaged and in the ditch near Highway 97B and 10th Avenue S.E..

“A southbound motorcycle approached the intersection of 10th Avenue as the driver of a vehicle on 10th Ave S.E. pulled away from the stop sign,” writes West. “The operator of the motorcycle was forced to take evasive action as did the drive of the car.”

The 56-year-old Salmon Arm man riding the motorcycle was injured in the incident. The car’s driver was ticketed.

The crash has promoted RCMP to warn drivers to look out for bikes, motorbikes and pedestrians.

“Take a second look before proceeding, not doing so can have tragic consequences,” writes West.
