TORONTO — Michael Weston and Stephen Mangan have signed on to star in Houdini & Doyle, a British/Canadian co-production debuting next year on Global.

The 10-episode drama series will also star London, Ont. native Rebecca Liddiard as a police constable.

American actor Weston, who has had recurring roles on shows like House and Law & Order: SVU will play magician Harry Houdini and Mangan, a British actor whose credits include the movie Billy Elliot and Rush, will play Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The series follows the two men as they join forces to investigate unsolved cases.

“I’ve long been intrigued by both Houdini and Doyle; men who were ahead of their time, each fascinating in their own right,” said executive producer David Shore, in a release. “But the idea that these two, seemingly so different, could have been friends is almost too perfect.

“In Michael and Stephen, we have found two incredible actors that embody the intelligence, humour and mystique of these men, who even when viewed through the lens of history, are larger than life.”

Houdini & Doyle, produced in association with Shaw Media (parent company of Global News), comes from Canada’s Shaftesbury and the UK’s Big Talk in association with Shore Z Productions.
