WATCH: Calgary Police confirmed Friday that a man found dead along Riverside Drive Thursday is Ryan Delve and that he was murdered. Nancy Hixt reports.
CALGARY – Police say the man found dead in Calgary’s East Village on Thursday is the city’s 11th homicide victim of 2015.
On Friday afternoon, police confirmed the victim is 43 year old Ryan Edward Delve and that an autopsy confirmed he was murdered. The cause of death is not being released at this time.
Police say their homicide investigation continues after the man’s body was found on the pathway under the 5th Avenue Flyover near the intersection of Riverfront Avenue S.E. and 4 Street S.E. at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Calgary Police Duty Insp. Ryan Ayliffe said the man was discovered by “an associate,” but wasn’t sure about the nature of their relationship.
Friends say the victim was a member of the Calgary arts community who had spent years living on the streets of Calgary.
“Whether they were living on the street, or not, it doesn’t impact the type of investigation we’re going to do here,” said Ayliffe.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious in between midnight Wednesday night and noon on Thursday is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or contact Crime Stoppers.
