Only six of the 15 made it through to the inaugural class on Thursday, after being chosen by an international selection committee of journalists, scholars and other video game experts.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

They include: “Pong,” launched in 1972, “Doom,” from 1993, and 1985’s “Super Mario Bros.” are arcade draw “Pac-Man” (1980); Russian import “Tetris” (1984); and “World of Warcraft” (2004), which has swallowed millions of players into its online virtual universe.

You can now submit your nomination for the hall of fame’s class of 2016. The nominations will close in March 2016.

To make it into the hall of fame, games must have icon status, prove to be more than a passing fad and leave a mark on other games or forms of entertainment, pop culture or society in general.
