TORONTO – Homicide detectives with the York Regional Police are seeking witnesses after an elderly woman was found dead at an apartment building in Richmond Hill early Saturday morning.

Police said in statement that shortly after 5 a.m. officers were called to a local hospital after a man walked in suffering from injuries. The information then led police to an apartment at 45 Baif Boulevard near Yonge Street where the body of a deceased elderly female was found.

Police said they arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the death which they believe is suspicious. Police said charges have not been laid yet as homicide detectives continue to carry out an investigation.

It is believed the man and the woman were known to one another and this as not a “random act.” Police are not looking for any other suspects.

The identity of the woman has not been released pending notification of next of kin. A post mortem examination has been scheduled for Sunday to determine a cause of death.
