SHIPPAGAN, N.B. – More than $2.1 million will be spent to improve the drinking water and wastewater systems in Shippagan.
It’s the second community in New Brunswick this week to get an upgrade to the system it uses for drinking water after upgrades were announced Monday for Baker-Brook.

The federal, provincial and local governments say the money in Shippagan will also be spent to upgrade the town’s wastewater system.
The money will be used to address wastewater spills into the community’s storm sewers and Shippagan Bay, which the government says is threatening the local shellfish industry.
Before work can begin, an environmental impact assessment has to be done by the municipality.
