WATCH: The Edge walks off edge of stage at Vancouver U2 concert

TORONTO — U2 guitarist The Edge missed the edge of the stage Thursday night as the band kicked off its world tour in Vancouver.

The 53-year-old British-born musician, whose real name is David Evans, fell during the last song of the band’s first concert on the Innocence + Experience tour at Rogers Arena.

He was walking on a ramp extending into the crowd while playing “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” when he stepped off and hit the ground. Bono continued to sing until he realized the band was a man down.

The Edge later posted a photo on Instagram showing scrapes on his arm. “Didn’t see the edge, I’m ok!!” he assured fans.

U2 is on tour for the first time since lead singer Bono suffered serious injuries to his face and arm in a bicycle crash in New York City’s Central Park.

The 55-year-old told The New York Times his shoulder and face have healed but his titanium-reinforced arm is “all numb.”

Bono fell off stages during concerts in Miami in 2001 and in Washington in 1987.

U2 spent several weeks rehearsing for the tour inside Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum.

In an interview with a local radio station, Bono praised the city. “Vancouver has been very, very welcoming of us at a time when we were very fragile. Because you get quite vulnerable when you are preparing to launch a tour. I know it sounds odd, but there is a level of nausea, you feel ill. It is a really anxious time.”

Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. flew home to Dublin earlier in the week for the funeral of his father, who died at 92.

U2 will play one more show in Vancouver and is scheduled to perform June 12, 13, 16 and 17 in Montreal and July 6 and 7 in Toronto.
