A woman attacked and half-buried by a wild bear in Russia’s Amur region has been found alive.

Officials from the region’s Animal Protection Department said Natalya Pasternak, 55, a postal worker and mother of two, was found buried up to her arms in a forest outside of Tynda on May 11.

Graphic footage of the woman half-buried has also been released by the agency.

Sergei Ivanov, the chief specialist at the Animal Protection Department, said Pasternak was found conscious but severely injured after the attack.

The four-year-old female bear tried to attack officials shortly after they found the woman, according to Ivanov, and they were forced to shoot and kill the animal.

Pasternak was hospitalised with critical injuries and underwent five hours of surgery.

She is now understood to be in a stable condition.
