WATCH: Large tree topples onto children in Massachusetts park, two injured

Two children were seriously injured Tuesday when a large tree fell onto them at a park in Chelsea, Massachusetts

Authorities and parents are stunned as to how the tree in Washington Park fell right into an area where a group of children were playing.

“Everybody was panicking,” witness Diamond Gonzalez told NBC affiliate WHDH. “Everybody called the ambulance, the cops. Nobody knew what to do.”

Security footage released by Chelsea Police shows the 10.5 metre tall tree topple onto a play area without warning.

“A tree fell on us and I hit my head,” said Diego Ruiz.

The eight-year-old suffered a head injury that required three staples and he has scratches on his shoulder.

A two-year-old boy was also seriously injured when the tree fell on top of him. His father told WHDH that it required four adults to move the tree off his son, who suffered a possible skull fracture.

The park was closed and arborists were brought in to investigate why the tree fell and examine other trees for safety.
