TORONTO – Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer and Michael Pineda threw eight shutout innings as New York defeated Toronto 6-3 on Tuesday night to end the Blue Jays’ four-game home winning streak.

Alex Rodriguez drove in two runs and Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and scored twice for the Yankees (17-10). Pineda (4-0) allowed five hits and had six strikeouts for the American League East division leaders.

David Carpenter gave up a solo homer to Montreal native Russell Martin in the Blue Jays’ three-run ninth inning. Toronto brought the tying run to the plate but Andrew Miller got Devon Travis to fly out for his 11th save.

The Blue Jays fell to 13-15 with the loss.

Marco Estrada, making his first start of the season for the Blue Jays after six relief appearances, gave up back-to-back hits to start the game. Ellsbury led off with a single and moved to third when Brett Gardiner doubled on the 11th pitch of his at-bat.
