REGINA – The cost of putting kids into community sports can take its toll on a family. KidSport is a charity that hopes to lighten that financial burden.

May is KidSport month in Saskatchewan. Students at Albert Community School kicked it off with a presentation from KidSport representatives as well as Regina-Dewdney MLA Gene Makowsky and Saskatchewan Roughrider Weldon Brown.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The students got a chance to play a game to get up and moving and win a KidSport backpack.

The event was a chance for the kids to hear first-hand how sports can affect people’s lives.

Brown sees similarities between everyday life and playing sports.

“There’s certain obstacles that you face while playing sports that correlate with life as well. Never give up. Sometimes you’re not going to be the best in a sport, but if you keep working hard you can be as good as you want to be.”
