Alberta Election 2015: NDP’s Debbie Jabbour rallies late to win Peace River

On a disappointing night for the party overall, the PCs looked set to hold onto their historical stronghold of Peace River.

Frank Oberle, who has held this riding since 2004, was leading the NDP’s Debbie Jabbour by over 400 votes with 46 of 66 polls reporting.

But the NDP would not be denied, with Jabbour catching up in the end to defeat the former Energy Minister by a narrow margin.

The most northwest of all Alberta ridings, this expansive district has elected PC candidates since 1971, when the party began their dynasty in Alberta.

The riding includes the communities of Peace River, High Level, Manning, Rainbow Lake, Ft. Vermillion and La Crete.

Candidates:

  • Progressive Conservative: Frank Oberle (Incumbent)
  • NDP: Debbie Jabbour
  • Wildrose: Nathan Steinke
  • Alberta Party: Sherry Hilton
