WINNIPEG – Recycling pick up could be delayed Wednesday due to a fire at the company’s recycling plant.
If Wednesday is your recycling day, city officials say you should leave your blue cart at the curb until 10 p.m. If it’s not been emptied by then, call 311.
The blaze broke out inside a large pit containing recycled paper at Emterra Environmental’s materials recovery facility on Henry Avenue Wednesday morning.
City officials say firefighters had to flood the pit to put the fire out.
There were 46 employees in the plant when the fire broke out; 2 went to hospital in stable condition after inhaling smoke.
The cause and cost of the fire still aren’t known.
No delays are expected in curbside garbage and waste collection.
