WEST KELOWNA — The District of West Kelowna believes someone with a knowledge of irrigation systems is responsible for a recent vandalism spree.
The District says over the past two weeks, the irrigation systems servicing the newly-upgraded portion of Brown Road in Westbank Centre, the upgraded Wine route portion of Boucherie Road, the Rosewood Sportsfield and a section of Gellately waterfront have been damaged and/or turned off.
Stacey Harding, the District’s Parks and Fleet Supervisor, says the vandalized valves are about six to seven feet underground and require a specialized tool in order to access them.
He says the vandal either has specific knowledge of the systems or has a trades background.
“Several components in the irrigation vaults are very specialized and you need to know what valves will eliminate the water sources,” says Harding. “The average person isn’t even aware of these underground valves.”
West Kelowna RCMP are now investigating.
If you have any information regarding the vandalism, you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP detachment: 250-738-2880.
