CALGARY – The Calgary Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into a suspicious death in the 10300 block of Macleod Trail S.W..

Around 8:00 Saturday morning EMS was called to check on the welfare of a person found just south of Southland Drive.

“First thing this morning these were people attending commercial businesses for starting their work day. However it was in relatively plain view of other witnesses,” Stuart Brideaux with EMS said.

They arrived to find a man, believed to be in his 40s, lying dead in the parking lot outside Chetlen Auto Tech.

Police say that the man had suffered some trauma, and they are investigating whether he died at that location or was dropped there. It’s unclear how long the man had been lying in the parking lot.

“It could be five hours before, it could be two hours before… anytime after the business was closed,” says Duty Inspector Joel Matthews. “We simply got the call that the man had suffered some trauma. And when we got there officers determined immediately that he was deceased.”

A couple had planned to pick up their car from the auto repair shop, now questioning who the victim might be.

“We decided just to come here. Thought maybe they were just busy working on the cars. Oh my goodness, I really hope that’s not somebody from Chetlen,” one woman said.

Police are interviewing a number of witnesses, canvassing the area for surveillance video, and asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious to contact them.

Investigators have tentatively identified the victim but are waiting on an autopsy for confirmation.
