MONTREAL – Mayor Denis Coderre has warned white collar workers who plan to protest in front of city hall that security will be heightened.

He said they are allowed to protest, but must do so peacefully.

The step up in security, which is costing just under $200 000, is designed to restrict access to various parts of the government building.

Some of the new measures include re-enforced security doors and more security cameras in the corridor leading to the mayor’s office, the city hall balcony and to city council chambers.
The doors will only open to people carrying an access card.

Contracts for the work were given to different companies to ensure complete confidentiality of the overall security plan.
