VANCOUVER – Columbus rookie Marko Dano recorded his first two-goal game in the NHL and Sergei Bobrovsky made 38 saves Thursday as the Blue Jackets embarrassed the Vancouver Canucks 6-2.

Rene Bourque, Cam Atkinson, Scott Hartnell and Alexander Wennberg, into an empty net, also scored for Columbus (32-35-4), which has won five of its last six but still remains a long shot for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

Bo Horvat and Daniel Sedin scored the first two goals for Vancouver (40-26-4) in the first period.

Eddie Lack allowed five goals, all in the second and third periods, on 30 shots for the Canucks before getting pulled in favour of Jakob Markstrom midway through the third period.

Markstrom finished with two saves for Vancouver, which is just a point up on the Calgary Flames for second place in the Pacific Division with a game in hand.

Columbus led 3-2 after the second and extended that advantage 5:31 into the third when Dano swatted home a loose puck at the side of the net after a strange bounce off the glass for the rookie’s second of the night and seventh of the season.
