No smoke alarms found in fatal east-end house blaze: Toronto Fire

TORONTO – Toronto Fire officials say they did not find any smoke alarms in a fatal east-end house fire Monday night.

Emergency crews were called to the home near Gerrard St. E. and Greenwood Ave. shortly after 8 p.m.

One person was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics said.

No one else was injured in the two-alarm blaze.

Toronto Fire tweeted that 14 fire trucks and 55 firefighters attended the scene of the fire, which was knocked down around 9 p.m.

Officials say the damage is estimated at $80,000.

The Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
