When Jazzy, a nine-year-old St. Bernard went missing for hours last month, owner Tim Chavez of Belen, New Mexico had no idea where to look.
Thankfully, Jazzy’s best friend Razor the dachshund knew Jazzy was in trouble and tried to get Chavez’s attention.
When he couldn’t he ran to the ditch where Jazzy was stuck. As luck would have it, a bystander noticed Razor and followed him to find Jazzy stuck in a muddy ditch.
Firefighters and police were called and they rescued Jazzy while Razor stayed close-by during the entire rescue.
Chavez’s daughter Hannah called Razor’s actions “brave,” and he was rewarded accordingly by the Belen City Council on Monday.
“We congratulate you on your unknowingly gallant effort,” the council said as they placed a medal around Razor’s neck.
Although Jazzy and Razor are back together, according to KRQE, Chavez’s pit bull terrier Layla is still missing after she got loose the same day as Jazzy.
