Vaccination clinics to start Wednesday at Acadia University

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Public health officials in Nova Scotia say they plan to start vaccinating students at Acadia University today to combat an outbreak of meningitis.

They are setting up immunization clinics on campus at the Fountain Commons.

Officials confirmed last week that a second student had the B strain of meningitis, but was said to be recovering.

Another young female student died earlier this month after contracting the disease and rapidly becoming ill.

The province’s chief public health officer said last week that a free, two-dose vaccination program would be available for all students at the campus in Wolfville.

Staff and faculty who have certain medical conditions can also get vaccinated.

It’s estimated there are eight thousand doses for up to four-thousand people.
