United Way Saskatoon campaign raises $6.3 million

Watch above: The United Way of Saskatoon reached its 2014 goal of raising $6 million, money that will be used to help many agencies in the community and help fund the 211 project.

SASKATOON – The United Way funds numerous essential services for Saskatoon’s most vulnerable people. On Tuesday, the organization announced the final tally for its 2014 Community Campaign fundraiser – $6.3 million.

Saskatoon’s United Way officially launched the annual campaign in September 2014 and surpassed its goal.

“The citizens of Saskatoon and surrounding area have stepped up yet again and demonstrated their commitment to ensuring our communities are a great place to live for everyone,” says United Way of Saskatoon and Area interim CEO Myra Potter.

“It’s pretty darn impressive when you think we start from zero every year, it’s not like the money rolls from year to year, so this is one of our top years absolutely.”

Funds will be invested into services in the community to help ensure individuals and families basic needs are met, to improve access to information about social and health related services and to help youth do better in school.

The organization’s annual investment decision-making process has begun.

One of the projects it is looking to improve in 2015 is Saskatchewan’s 211 service by implementing a phone line to connect people to services alongside the website launched over a year ago.

Through the generosity of donors and volunteers this was the fourth consecutive year the campaign has raised over $6 million. The United Way in Saskatoon has been conducting these annually since opening in 1959.
