SGI extends photo radar warning period after processing error

REGINA – Drivers caught speeding by the new photo radar cameras across Saskatchewan won’t receive tickets until March.

SGI announced Thursday it has extended its warning period an additional month after a driver was sent a warning letter in error.

The letter said the driver was going more than 100 kilometers an hour in a Saskatoon school zone, but an investigation revealed the driver hadn’t in fact exceeded the speed limit.

SGI said before tickets are issued, officials want to ensure all processes are working smoothly.

“This was a human processing error and not a problem with the cameras, nor the accuracy of the cameras. Xerox is implementing a triple-check process to ensure this doesn’t occur again,” said Earl Cameron, vice president of the Auto Fund at SGI.

Drivers speeding in photo radar enforced areas will continue to receive warning letters until ticketing beings on March 8th.
