CENTRAL BUTTE, Sask. – A suspect is in custody and a school has ended its heightened security measures after a frightening day in Central Butte that saw a home surrounded by RCMP with rifles.

Earlier in the day police received word of possible threats and Central Butte School was forced to go into ‘hold and secure’ mode, which meant students and staff were free to move within the school, but the perimeter of the grounds was secured so no one could enter or leave.

According to residents, later a home was surrounded by numerous Mounties with scoped rifles.

The Prairie South School Division said hold and secure measures are no longer in place at the school and that students are heading home in a safe environment.

RCMP took a 27 year-old man into custody, but have not released his name or any charges he may be facing.
