UPDATE: (9:40 A.M.) BC Hydro has says power has been restored to all its customers in the Okanagan. The light went out for about 7,000 homes and businesses between 7:20 and 8:16 a.m. Hydro spokesperson Dag Sharma says the outage originated in a Fortis BC sub-station in Lake Country which supplies BC Hydro customers in the area. FortisBC reports power has been restored to about 15,000 customers in the Kelowna area. A spokesperson says they’re investigating the cause of the outage.
UPDATE: The power is back on in much of Kelowna however there are reports now of electricity outages in the Ellison area, most of Lake Country and along North Westside Road – affecting more than 7,000 customers. BC Hydro attributes the outage to transmission circuit failure. It doesn’t say when the power will be restored.
KELOWNA– Reports of a large power outage in Kelowna and surrounding areas.
Kelowna fire fighters have been dispatched to a number of alarms ringing in the downtown area as a result of the outage. Some apartment buildings have had to be evacuated as a precaution.
Residents in Lake Country are also reporting that their power is out.
