Kelly Hayes/Global News

UPDATE THURS: Kelowna RCMP say a 21-year-old woman died after the vehicle she was driving went over an embankment on Highway 33 East Wednesday afternoon. Constable Kris Clark says police responded to a report of a possible motor vehicle accident in the 6900 block of Highway 33 East.

“Vehicle tracks were seen leading from the roadway, down an embankment,” says Clark. “Police discovered a Mitsubishi Lancer approximately 250 feet down the embankment and the sole occupant deceased.”

He says the identity of the woman will not be released until next of kin have been notified. The road was damp and there was heavy fog at the time of the crash; however, Clark says it is not yet known what caused the vehicle to go over the embankment. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE THURS: Kelowna RCMP have yet to release any details about the incident other than to confirm that one person was killed and that there was only one occupant in the vehicle.  More details are expected to be released later today.
