Halifax police say no charges in 2014 crash between minivan and tractor-trailer

HALIFAX – Halifax police say no charges will be laid in connection with a fatal accident near one of the harbour bridges last February.

The head-on crash between a tractor-trailer and a minivan on Feb. 4, 2014 resulted in the death of the 40-year-old man who was driving the van.

Police say the accident on Barrington Street near the A. Murray MacKay Bridge occurred when the large truck’s trailer separated, crossed the centre lane and collided with the oncoming minivan.

Police say their investigation determined the driver of the tractor-trailer operated the vehicle in a careful and prudent manner.

It also found the driver conducted all appropriate safety checks prior to travel.

Police say the tractor and trailer parts of the rig were found to be in compliance with provincial regulations.
