WATCH: Heart and Stroke Foundation launches new stroke support program in Kelowna

KELOWNA –Many stroke survivors don’t know how to go about the lengthy recovery process, whether to resume usual activities or take it slow. That’s why the Heart and Stroke Foundation has started a support group program. It’s where stroke survivors help each other through recovery.

Jennifer Monaghan, volunteer coordinator for the “Living With Stroke” program, says the group focuses on a different topic every week including depression and other emotional impacts of a stroke. It’s something Monaghan is all too familiar with as she is a stroke survivor herself.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

“There’s approximately 500 people that get admitted to Kelowna General Hospital every year having a stroke so there’s a lot of people out there who can benefit from the program, she says.

Monaghan says the program has had waiting lists because there has been so much interest and there simply aren’t enough volunteers to run larger groups. She says the Heart and Stroke Foundation is looking for more volunteers to help expand the program.
