WATCH: Traffic slows down for wandering horse on Iowa highway

Commuters along a highway in Waterloo, Iowa were in for a surprise Thursday.

Many drivers assumed the heavy congestion was due to an auto incident, but it turned out to be more of the equestrian kind.

A horse had gotten loose from a farm and had wandered onto the road.

Passersby tweeted some photos of the bizarre scene before a state trooper was able to safely corral the horse.

Thankfully, the officers were able track down the horse’s owner.

“Something scared her,” Midge Hildreth told KWWL. “She broke the fence and took off running.”

Local police officers from the University of Iowa were able to laugh about the whole situation.
