Extreme cold warning ended in central Saskatchewan

SASKATOON – Environment Canada issued an extreme cold weather warning Saturday in Saskatoon and other parts of central Saskatchewan. An arctic ridge of high pressure is slumping southward bringing a surge of colder air into the province.

Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to almost minus 30, according to the federal agency. Combined with gusts at 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, wind chill values will reach minus 40 overnight Saturday.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when cold temperatures and winds creates an elevated risk of frost bite and hypothermia. People should wear weather appropriate clothing, such as synthetic and wool fabrics.
