MONCTON – The City of Moncton is predicting 2015 will be a good year for retail development within the city.
The city’s Director of Economic Development said Moncton will gain millions in tax revenue from the new Cabela’s outdoor store and projects planned around the Trinity shopping centre.
“The tax assessment around Trinity Drive, that whole area is upwards of $100-million of tax assessment or tax base,” said Kevin Silliker. “So its very successful and very meaningful for the city of Moncton with respect to revenue from taxes.”
Nick Bird speaks for the North East Construction Association in Moncton and said retail construction work is on the rise too.
“We have noticed a change in retail work starting to bloom again,” he said. “When there’s development in a new area then everyone wants to be there and be a part of it.”
Silliker said the city is open for business and is continuing to look at new places for big box development.
“Harrisville Boulevard remains very well positioned for more growth and future growth with respect to retail or big box stores as well,” he said.
