Wilhelm Rempel ordered to stand trial for first-degree murder of Ryan Lane

CALGARY- A man accused of kidnapping and killing Ryan Lane has been ordered to stand trial for first-degree murder.

On Thursday, a judge ordered Wilhelm Rempel to join his brother, Tim Rempel, and his sister-in-lawm Sheena Cuthill Rempel at trial.

Lawyers had already agreed to have Sheena and Tim stand trial but Wilhelm had been seeking a lesser charge. All three will now stand trial for first-degree murder and kidnapping in March 2016.

The trio have all been denied bail and if they don’t apply for bail again in the coming year, they’ll remain in custody at least until the trial begins.

Lane’s family appeared relieved as they heard the decision in the courtroom.

Lane disappeared on February 7, 2012; his remains were found several months later. The three accused were arrested in November 2012 and have been in custody ever since.
