Watch above: It has been nearly 10 months since a fatal crash on Circle Drive claimed the life of an eight-year-old girl. As Amber Rockliffe reports, following a lengthy investigation Saskatoon police have now charged her mother with impaired driving causing death.

SASKATOON – A woman has been charged with impaired driving causing death after her daughter died in a March 2014 crash. Janelle Cameron, 32, is also facing a charge of driving over .08 causing death.

Cameron made her first appearance in provincial court Thursday. She was wiping away tears as the judge spoke to her.

At about 9:30 a.m. on March 1, 2014, Cameron was travelling north on Idylwyld Freeway near the Ruth Street exit. Police said her car flipped, crossed the centre median and collided with a pole, before it came to rest in the southbound lanes.

First responders, police, and other emergency personnel who attended the crash said they were shaken.

“Anytime you attend a collision where you have a fatality, it’s traumatic for the emergency responders, there’s no doubt about that. When a child is involved, it’s particularly disturbing,” said Alyson Edwards with the Saskatoon Police Service.

Over the past eight months, police conducted a lengthy investigation into the crash.

“It is a long, often long and arduous task to put the pieces together of what occurred prior to the collision,” Edwards explained.
