WATCH ABOVE: The Filipino community has suffered another devastating loss as three temporary foreign workers were killed in a collision east of Rocky Mountain House.
EDMONTON — For the second time in less than a month, an Alberta crash has claimed the lives of temporary foreign workers from the Philippines.
“We are still mourning for the deaths of the four car crash victims…and here comes another group,” said Filipino community leader, Lyla Gray.
“It’s very sad for us.”
Global News has learned the latest victims include a recently married couple, and a man. The group had reportedly been in Canada for about a year and worked at the Dairy Queen in Rocky Mountain House.
The three victims, along with a 25-year-old who was driving, were on their way home from language training in Red Deer when the driver lost control. Their vehicle crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming truck.
Officers were called to Hwy. 11 and Range Rd. 42, between Sylvan Lake and Rocky Mountain House, early Saturday afternoon.
The three passengers were killed in the crash, while the driver was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton. RCMP said he was in critical condition on Sunday.
Investigators believe the driver’s inexperience on Alberta highways may have played a role in the deadly crash.

The two men in the five-tonne truck were not hurt.
RCMP continue to work with the victims’ employer to notify their family overseas. Meanwhile, the Filipino community plans to rally around one another once more to grieve the latest losses.
Tragedy has struck the community not once, but twice in recent years. Four temporary foreign workers died after a crash in Innisfail in 2012, and last month four more died in Leduc.

“Even if we just know each other as an acquaintance, during times like this, it seems like we’ve known each other forever,” said Faye Deriquito, a friend of the victims. “We all come together to help each other.”
