Vehicle-pedestrian collisions in Halifax last month up from 2013 totals

HALIFAX – Police reported Thursday that 39 pedestrians in the Halifax area were struck by cars in November, up from 24 during the same period last year.

The monthly report released by the Halifax Regional Police, which included data from areas of RCMP jurisdiction, also showed that 229 pedestrians have been struck by vehicles since Jan. 1, 2014, and 60 per cent of the incidents occurred in crosswalks.

Of the pedestrians who were hit, four died and nine suffered serious injuries. Another 27 sustained moderate injuries while 113 had minor injuries. There were 73 pedestrians with no reported injuries and three whose injuries were unknown.
