TORONTO – Businesses and activists in Ferguson, Missouri are preparing for a grand jury announcement on whether to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The community of Ferguson has seen a series of ongoing protests since Brown was killed Aug. 9.

On Monday authorities stepped up security around the downtown courthouse in the St. Louis County seat of Clayton, where the grand jury announcement is expected. Police set up barricades as armed Missouri state troopers assembled around the courthouse.

Businesses in Clayton and Ferguson spent the day boarding up windows in preparation for possible protests.

The St. Louis county prosecutor’s office said Monday that the 12-person grand jury has made up its mind and an announcement from officials would come at 9 p.m. ET.
