WATCH: A house fire in Riverdale has claimed the life of its sole occupant. Peter Kim reports.
TORONTO – An elderly woman who was missing after a three-alarm fire destroyed a home on Withrow Avenue near Pape and Gerrard early Friday morning has been found.
The blaze started just after 4 a.m. and by 5:30 a.m., the home had completely collapsed and firefighters began working to contain the flames from spreading to an adjacent house.
Toronto Fire said the body of the 81-year-old woman who lives in the home was found in her bed shortly after 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in for the investigation.
Meanwhile, crews are still on scene monitoring hot spots.

Earlier in the morning, a family was forced from their home following a separate fire in Etobicoke just after midnight.
It happened on Cabernet Circle near Martingrove and Steeles Avenue.
Emergency crews knocked down the fire within an hour and no injuries were reported.
A few hours later, Toronto Fire rushed to another scene at Queen Street near McCaul Street.
The fire broke out in an apartment just above a pet store.
Residents were evacuated while crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
No injuries were reported there as well.
