Manitoba Liquor Mart strike possible after workers reject contract

Manitoba Liquor Mart employees will vote starting next week on whether they'll back up contract demands with a strike. File / Global News

WINNIPEG – Unionized Liquor Mart employees in Manitoba will cast their ballots in a strike vote Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 — making a Christmas strike possible.

The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union members rejected a tentative agreement with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries on Monday.

Further bargaining is scheduled for Nov. 26 and the union has scheduled a strike vote to start the next day.

The 820 employees from Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries’ retail stores, head office and distribution centre are seeking a new contract.

The employer has offered “a modest wage increase” in exchange for contract concessions, the union said in a news release.
