Hitmen complete three-game Alberta sweep of Blades

CALGARY – Connor Rankin set up the game’s first goal and then added an empty netter to end it as the Calgary Hitmen cruised past the Saskatoon Blades 4-1 in WHL Sunday.

Kenton Helgesen, Michael Zipp and Ben Thomas also scored for Calgary (11-8-3) while Evan Johnson made 22 saves for the win.

Adam Henry supplied the scoring for the Blades (6-16-0), who got a 47-save performance from Trevor Martin.

The Blades are off until Saturday evening when they take on the Swift Current Broncos at SaskTel Centre.

Elsewhere, Glenn Gawdin set up Colby Cave’s second-period goal and then scored the eventual winner less than two minutes later as the Broncos slipped past the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1.

Landow Bow turned away 23-of-24 shots for Swift Current (12-8-4).

Ethan Bear scored the lone goal for the Thunderbirds (9-10-3) while Taran Kozun made 25 saves in defeat.
